Audit Reports
SFI Certified Organizations believe forest
managers and landowners have an important
stewardship responsibility and a commitment to
society, and they recognize the importance of
maintaining viable commercial forest and
conservation forestland bases. They support
sustainable forestry practices on forestland
they manage, and promote them on other lands.
They support efforts to protect private
property rights, and to help all private
landowners manage their forestland
sustainably. In keeping with this
responsibility, SFI Certified Organizations
shall have a written policy
to implement and achieve the specific
principles and objectives.
Each objective consists of Performance
Measures and Core Indicators which define the
specific requirements an organization must
meet in order to achieve certification.
Some examples of Core Indicators include:
Staff education
and training sufficient to their roles and
responsibilities.
Clear criteria
to judge adequate regeneration and
appropriate actions to correct under-stocked
areas and achieve acceptable species
composition and stocking rates for both
artificial and natural regeneration.
Program to
protect threatened and endangered species.
As an SFI Certified Organization, DFMC
is an active member of the Central
Canada SFI Implementation Committee
(CCSIC) which promotes and fosters
understanding of the Sustainable Forestry
Initiative and encourages the implementation
of sustainable forestry practices to wood
suppliers, landowners and the public.
DFMC encourages all workers on the Dryden
Forest to strive towards becoming a "Qualified
Logging Professional" by meeting a set
of criteria in understanding their legal and
training requirements, understanding best
management practices, and demonstrate a
continuing awareness of SFI principles of
sustainable forestry.
